Thursday 12th December 2024 In this Tea and Talk join Nina our Keeper of Social History, to explore the myths and origins associated with various Christmas traditions. By examining the collection, you will have the opportunity to discover the Christmas artifacts preserved in the museum and potentially gain new insights as to why we celebrate Christmas in the way we do.

Thursday 9th January 2025 In this Tea and Talk join Brett Thorn, our Keeper of Archaeology as he looks at some of the most interesting recent Treasure acquisitions, and how the Portable Antiquities Scheme, and the Treasure process help us to save these beautiful pieces of the county’s heritage. From Bronze Age gold bracelets to Tudor love rings, if it’s gold or silver, and at least 300 years old, it may be Treasure.Items that are legally “Treasure” are regularly found across the county, most often by metal detectorists, and the museum has the opportunity to acquire these – if we can raise the funds!

The talk will last approx. 30 minutes and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions after as you relax with your cream tea!

Thursday 13th February 2025 In this Tea and Talk join Mike Palmer, our Keeper of Geology and Wildlife for a talk on Buckinghamshire’s dinosaurs and sea monsters. Discover why only a handful of dinosaur fossils have been found in Bucks while marine reptile bones abound.

Wednesday 12th March* 2025 In this Tea and Talk join Arwen Wood our Finds Liaison Officer to learn more about The Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS). This is a national scheme run through the British Museum, and the Buckinghamshire post is based at Discover Bucks Museum. The scheme records individual objects found by members of the public, and has included some of the objects in our galleries, including the Lenborough Hoard. Arwen will give a brief overview of treasure process and focus on some highlights of the exciting finds that have been found, and that represent the people of our past.  We’ll also look at what to do when you find the pot of gold, and handle some archaeological finds.

The talk will last approx. 30 minutes and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions after as you relax with your cream tea!
