Treat yourself to an elegant Afternoon Tea in our cafe or beautiful garden, weather dependant. Enjoy delicate finger sandwiches, a scone with jam, clotted cream and a selection of sweet treats along with a varied selection of teas and coffees to choose from when you arrive and a refill after your keeper talk.

Admission to the Museum for the day is included in the Afternoon Tea.

Thursday 12th September Join Arwen Wood, Finds Liason Officer for Buckinghamshire for Portable Antiquities Scheme.  The Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) is a national scheme run through the British Museum, and the Buckinghamshire post is based at Discover Bucks Museum. The scheme records individual objects found by members of the public, and has included some of the objects in our galleries, including the Lenborough Hoard. The talk will look at how the Scheme works, give a brief overview of treasure process and focus on some highlights of the exciting finds that have been found, and that represent the people of our past.  We’ll also look at what to do when you find the pot of gold, and handle some archaeological finds.

The talk will last approx. 30 minutes and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions after as you relax with your cream tea!

Thursday 10th October  Magic in your attic! Join Brett Thorn our Keeper of Archaeology about 2 fascinating types of object in our Weird Exhibition - witch bottles, and concealed shoes. These are folk magic protective charms, made to defend against witchcraft, and often hidden in old houses to protect the inhabitants from malevolent magic!

The talk will last approx. 30 minutes and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions after as you relax with your cream tea!

Thursday 14th November The Ups and Downs of the Ice Age. Join Mike Palmer our Keeper of Geology and Wildlife as winter looms and temperatures fall to take this opportunity to discover more about the Ice Age and its impact in Buckinghamshire

The talk will last approx. 30 minutes and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions after as you relax with your cream tea!

This act is performed by a well-trained magician please do not try anything at home.

Doors open at 6:30pm with our bar available to purchase alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and snacks all evening. Show starts 7:00pm, 30-minute interval, Show finishes 9:30pm.

Learn all about the changing face of Bucks 4000 years ago with this interactive workshop for home educating families. Make your very own Bronze Age beaker out of clay, handle a range of prehistoric items, learn about how fossils are created, make a fossil rubbing to take home and more!

This workshop will begin with a short, optional discussion about prehistoric Bucks: if you wish to take part in this portion of the workshop, please arrive promptly for 10.30am or 1.00pm.

This workshop is recommended for children aged 5+ but all ages are welcome.

Please note: parents are required to remain in attendance throughout this activity.

Times: 10.30am – 12.00am or 1.00pm – 2.30pm

Tickets

Cost: £6.50 per child, accompanying adults and under 3s free. Booking required.
