Thursday Afternoon Tea & Keeper Talk (Monthly)

Thursday 13th February 2025, 1pm Wednesday 12th March* 2025, 1pm Thursday 24th April 2025

Treat yourself to an elegant Afternoon Tea in our cafe or beautiful garden, weather dependant. Enjoy delicate finger sandwiches, a scone with jam, clotted cream and a selection of sweet treats along with a varied selection of teas and coffees to choose from when you arrive and a refill after your keeper talk.

Please choose from our classic or vegetarian option.

Admission to the Museum for the day is included in the Afternoon Tea.

Thursday 13th February 2025 In this Tea and Talk join Mike Palmer, our Keeper of Geology and Wildlife for a talk on Buckinghamshire’s dinosaurs and sea monsters. Discover why only a handful of dinosaur fossils have been found in Bucks while marine reptile bones abound.

The talk will last approx. 30 minutes and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions after as you relax with your cream tea!

Wednesday 12th March* 2025 In this Tea and Talk join Arwen Wood our Finds Liaison Officer to learn more about The Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS). This is a national scheme run through the British Museum, and the Buckinghamshire post is based at Discover Bucks Museum. The scheme records individual objects found by members of the public, and has included some of the objects in our galleries, including the Lenborough Hoard. Arwen will give a brief overview of treasure process and focus on some highlights of the exciting finds that have been found, and that represent the people of our past.  We’ll also look at what to do when you find the pot of gold, and handle some archaeological finds.

The talk will last approx. 30 minutes and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions after as you relax with your cream tea!

 Thursday 24 April 2025 In this Tea and Talk join Nina our Keeper of Social History, to dive into the fascinating world of mystery objects from our social history collections. Some will feel familiar, while others may spark curiosity as you discover items that were once part of everyday life but seem strange and unfamiliar to our modern eyes. Join us for this tea and talk, where we’ll explore these intriguing artifacts and ponder the mysteries behind these objects and their presence in our museum’s collection.

The talk will last approx. 30 minutes and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions after as you relax with your cream tea!

*Please note the March Afternoon Tea and Talk will take place on a Wednesday instead of our usual Thursday.
